Lolly's first birthday was this Saturday, and no we didn't rent a banquet hall or hire a band. We gave some new toys and decided that the best present Lolly could ever have is affection from people.
I made a bandana for her that said "Birthday Girl - Pet Me!" Eric and Lolly and I drove into downtown DC where we put the bandana on her and took her for a long walk. In Dupont Circle lots of excited children and adults walked up to her and petted her. A few of those who didn't read the bandana and smiled. At first she was more interested in the fountain at the park, but quickly warmed up to her "captive" audience.
Sometimes Lolly would start at one side of a bench and work her way down the line, just to make sure everyone had the opportunity to love her.
